Oak Creek Canyon, Arizona

If you are driving towards Sedona from Flagstaff using Hiway 89A, you will pass through Oak Creek Canyon on the way. Oak Creek Canyon might be thought of as almost an oasis of forest and running streams, amongst what is mostly the dry arid land of Southern Arizona. The picture above was taken through the car windshield, holding the camera in one hand, whilst holding the steering wheel with the other, maybe not such a good idea when you are driving behind a Police Car!

The picture above was taken standing on some stones in the middle of the river that flows through Oak Creek Canyon, trying not to fall off whilst I took the picture, the picture below was taken from the river bank, looking across the stones I had just been standing on.

Sedona, Arizona

Below must be the classic view of Sedona, this picture was taken facing North from Airport Mesa, looking across the whole of Sedona towards the mountain on the other side. I first came to Sedona in 1998 and at that time it was really nice, not overdeveloped, and with enough spiritual people living there to make every encounter truly interesting. Now the rich people have moved in, and development has gone crazy, so Sedona is I am afraid ruined, in my opinion, over-commercialized, though the views of the rocks remain as good as ever!

The picture taken below was taken facing exactly the opposite direction from the one above, you can see Courthouse Butte and in the distance Bell Rock, this picture was taken early in the morning, hence the blue haze.

The picture below is of Courthouse Butte, again taken early in the morning, from the road that passes it.

The next picture below is of Bell Rock, peeping out above the trees that line Hiway 179, I once attempted to climb this rock which doesnt look so big, in fact it is 718 feet high!

Here are a few pictures taken in the Boynton Canyon area of Sedona, Arizona. Whilst Sedona is mostly famous for its Red Rocks, and its Vortex sites, many of the rocks in the Sedona area are other colors than red, yet no less dramatic to look at:

Of course there are plenty of Red Rocks in Sedona, and this one was photographed late in the day on Highway 89a on the road to Oak Creek Canyon. I am sure it has a name but I dont know what it is.

This is one that I do know the name of, the rock on the far right is known as "Coffee Pot Rock", for obvious reasons:

Sedona is a great place if you are looking for something sort of spiritual but you dont know what it is, or you are looking for some nice piece of Art, or something to make your friends think you are into Shamanism or Native American culture, but I can tell you that if you are honestly and truly into discovering yourself, and expanding your consciousness, you dont need all the metaphysical brick-a-brac that is sold just about everywhere in Sedona, so you save your money and just buy a Voice Programmed Remedy Maker or an Energy Copier instead!

Here is a view of Hiway 89a with nice rocks in the background:
