Ok, you probably have'nt heard of Crestone, but dont feel bad about it as even most people in Colorado have'nt heard of it either. Crestone is a small town in the Sangre De Christo Mountains, about 50 miles north of Alamosa. Originally a mining town, it has become the great unknown spiritual center of Colorado, most people who live there being into Healing or Reiki, or something Shamanic, or Tarot, of some other new age thing. Sitting at the foot of a 14,000 foot Mountain, the place attracts the self builder of experimental housing, from Straw Bale to Papercrete, and those that don't mind living in a town without a Bank.
Below you can see a rare shot of my traveling home, parked outside Rainbow B & B, where Dennis and Judie, the two people I know in Crestone live.
I should also mention the unusual Home of Kelly Hart and his wife Rosanne, who live in an Earthbag and Papercrete house. Papercrete is a mixture of Paper pulp and concrete, mixed up to form a hand moldable substance, which in this case was used to cover the Earth bag superstructure. In the picture below you can see the front door:
In the picture below you can see a side view of the house, with Kelly staring nonchalantly
into the air.
Here is a view of the side entranceBelow is a view of the dining area, complete with adobe floor and dog.

Here you can see Rosanne Hart in the upstairs office room.
The picture below is of the little one room storehouse which Kelly told me was the prototype for the house. One make a great home for a Gnome, wouldnt it?
After leaving Crestone I headed back to Tucson via New Mexico and Northern Arizona. The picture below was taken on New Mexico Highway 64 at a lookout point near 11,403 ft Brazos Peak.
The picture below was taken on Arizona 191 near Round Rock on the Navajo Reservation. The picture was taken in the early morning, I am sure this Rock has a name but I dont know what it is:
The picture below was taken just a few miles further up the road, a little closer towards Round Rock. I couldnt help thinking how much the view was ruined by the telegraph wires, and if this was in England there would be a parking lot with someone selling icecream. Do you notice the little rocks to the left of the picture that look like chimneys?
This next picture was also taken a little further down the same road Highway 191 looking in the opposite direction:
The final picture on this page shown below is of Canyon de Chelly, pronounced I am told "Canyon De Shay". Located close to Chinle in the Navajo Reservation, it is hard to comprehend the size and distance involved, so I have included a link to a larger view of this picture. to go there click on the picture below:
