Even though I have lived in Tucson for about two and a half years now, I still hadnt driven up to Mount Lemmon because my previous vehicle had transmission problems, and would certainly have never made it to the top. Now with my recently purchased Kia Sedona, I felt confident to make the accent and visit the small town of Summerhaven, which lies near the peak of this 8000Ft + Mountain.
The problem when you are photographing mountain scenes is that everything is so large that if you try to make nice views, you finish up with photos that dont contain any detail, and so make rather boring pictures. The picture below was taken at around 6000 ft with the road ahead disapearing around a curve.
The picture below is of that funny looking rock at the side of the road and the view down the side of the Mountain
Not so long ago, ( I dont remember the date ) there was a forest fire on Mt Lemmon causing tremendous damage to trees and to the homes of people who live on the mountain. Above is a picture of some of this tree damage, which is oddly striking to look at.
I kind of thought that when I got to the top of Mount Lemmon there would be a wonderful view of the scene below, and I was very disapointed when I found you can't get to the absolute pinnacle, because othe top parts of the mountain are fenced off and used by the University of Arizona, for Astronomy and various other activities. The picture above is pretty much all there is to see.

As I previously said, panoramic views from near the top tend to be unimpressive, but the above and below pictures show what there is to see.
